The Penthouse

Since 2009, we had been pleased to offer the Penthouse for guests and there have been so many who came to Maui for a delightful experience. Thank you to each guest and for the kind words of many expressing their satisfaction.

After 2020, we were fortunate enough to have made The Penthouse our home, which is why we stopped offering rentals for guest stays. We were very excited for this next chapter and hoped to enjoy the Penthouse for many years, but the fire on August 8, 2023, changed everything. Our beautiful Lahaina was gone. Our building was standing, and The Penthouse was just as we left it, but the utilities in the area had been wiped out.

Over the next two years, the building was closed to occupancy and we decided that our run at Lahaina Shores had come to an end, so we sold in November 2025. We were fortunate enough to revisit the property at that time and found that the restoration of the building had been done spectacularly! The building looked the best we have ever seen it. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the town of Lahaina which hasn't even begun to be rebuilt as of early 2026. I'm sure it will, and we will keep an eye on it from Ka'annapali, but we still miss our time at Lahaina Shores. It remains a treasure.

Why is this place different?

First, there are only four ocean side penthouses at Lahaina Shores. The penthouse units have more than one bathroom, dishwashers, and washers and dryers in the units so they are more convenient than many of the other units.

Secondly, we live there sometimes. Why is that important? It is really a home! The dishes all match, there are martini and Margarita glasses in addition to the standard fare, and the flatware is substantial. No storing all your foodstuff on the counter in this unit because there is a pantry! The bed is comfortable, and the living areas are too. This isn’t your average vacation rental. It really feels like home because it is a home.

In the photos you can see how we expanded the kitchen equipping it with mahogany cabinetry, replacing all the flooring with fine Marazzi tile imported from Italy all the way out into the lanai, and many more upgrades. We are taking everything we learned from remodeling our first unit, Penthouse 5, and kicking it up a notch as we strive for the perfect Maui getaway.
